Folder tree metadata:

Generally exporting metadata related to folder structures, commonly known as "folder tree metadata." Metadata related to folders typically includes information about the structure, hierarchy, and properties of folders. The export of folder tree metadata is useful for documenting and transferring the organizational structure of digital assets.

Canto organizes assets and metadata within the concept of a "Main Library" and "Portals."

Folder Tree Metadata Export:

  • When exporting folder tree metadata, you may have the option to choose whether you want to export from the Main Library, a specific Portal, or both.
  • Exporting from the Main Library provides a comprehensive view of the entire organizational structure and metadata associated with the core DAM system.
  • Exporting from a Portal allows you to focus on a subset of assets and their associated metadata, catering to specific sharing or collaboration needs.

Note: Metadata associated with folders and assets may differ between the Main Library and Portals, so it's important to export from the appropriate location based on your requirements.

Here's the difference between the Main Library and Portals in the context of folder tree metadata export in Canto:

Main Library:

The Main Library in Canto is the central repository where all digital assets are stored and managed. It typically represents the core DAM system where the entire collection of assets is organized.

Folder structures within the Main Library categorize and organize assets, and metadata associated with these folders and assets is maintained in the Main Library.

When exporting folder tree metadata from the Main Library, you would typically export the organizational structure, including folder names, IDs, creation dates, and any other metadata associated with the folders within the Main Library.

Portals:

Portals in Canto are specialized views or subsets of the Main Library. Portals allow you to share specific collections of assets with external users or different internal teams.

Each Portal may have its own folder structure, distinct from the Main Library. When you export folder tree metadata from a Portal, you are exporting the organizational structure and associated metadata specific to that Portal.

Portals may have their own unique metadata associated with folders and assets, separate from the metadata in the Main Library.
